Treated Timber - Softwood Framed Buildings

We take care to use only the very best timber sourced ethically from sustainable forests.

We focus on using softwood as it is a sustainable alternative to Oak without compromising on quality or aesthetics. Softwood is used for virtually all structural timber members in every home from floor joists to roof structures including timber frame housing, so it makes an ideal choice for our products.

There are a number of treatment processes which can prolong the life of timber.

The most commonly used is a process called “tanalising”, this involves impregnating the wood with the environmentally friendly preservative Tanalith E. The whole process takes place under carefully controlled conditions in a vacuum pressure timber impregnation plant and gives the timber incredible longevity and protection from fungi and insects.

Protected wood needs no further maintenance treatment but will naturally weather over time losing colour and developing cracks. They are not detrimental to the long term durability of the product giving it character. Properly cared for timber framed buildings can last many years!

All the timber we use is sourced from suppliers that support the FSC - Forest Stewardship Council - who ensure that timber comes from certified forests that are managed to ensure long term timber supplies while protecting the environment and the lives of forest-dependent peoples. A system of Chain of Custody certification traces forest products through the supply chain to the end-consumer.
